Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders provides an interdisciplinary forum to explore the pathophysiology, recognition, and treatment of the cluster of conditions associated with the evolving entity of metabolic syndrome. These include but are not limited to: central obesity, endothelial dysfunction, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, glucose intolerance, type 2 diabetes, prothrombotic and pro-inflammatory states, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). For a majority of those affected, poor nutritional status and insufficient physical activity are the root causes in the disease process. Metabolic syndrome is estimated to affect more than one in five adults, and its prevalence is growing in the adult and pediatric populations. The Journal will take an innovative approach and will encourage active participation, to put forth new paradigms and to critically assess new developments in the field, in addition to original papers and state-of-the art reviews. The journal will also feature short communications, letters and commentaries relevant to the cluster of conditions related to the metabolic syndrome. Sections of issues may be dedicated to specific topics, e. g. , metabolic syndrome in women, inflammation and atherosclerosis, insulin resistance in children, endothelial dysfunction and diabetes, abdominal obesity, and lifestyle and the metabolic syndrome. Integrating the disciplines of nutrition, epidemiology, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and cell biology with practical clinical applications. Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders will be pertinent to the practice of the primary care physician as well as the endocrinologist, the cardiologist, the rheumatologist, and other specialists.
